
The Government is considering amending the AADHAAR 2016 law to provide users over their data and prevent abuse of the unique identification number.
“We need to see how AADHAAR’s law can be harmonized to the DPDP law (digital personal data) that maintains the user’s interest in the center,” said IT Ashwini Vaishnaw in a video published on Wednesday.

According to officials, the government is to involve gaps and align the Aadhaar law with the DPDP law.
While Vaishnaw did not share the details of the proposed amendment, he said: “There are a number of programs and uses where citizens are again and again requested to provide their data every time and at different locations, for verification.
The main focus of the change will be to minimize data and standard to delete data, as is currently ordered by the DPDP law. However, Aadhaar is looking for details after him, the officials said.

“Similarly, it also focuses on preventing the reuse of Aadhaar for a purpose other than originally searched by agencies,” one of the officials said, adding that the language would be clearer and more specific to avoid any conflict with the DPDP law.
The DPDP Act, 2023, which was approved by Parliament in August 2023, must only be made.
The government is currently completing the rules for implementing the law that Vaishnaw has said that they are almost ready and will soon be announced. Minimizing data means the practice of collecting only the minimum amount of personal data necessary to achieve a specific purpose. Analysts have stated that the amendment to AADHAAR with DPDP will be necessary to prevent any data abuse, as well as for greater data control and better consent management.

According to Garg, the government should also minimize the use of the use of Aadhaar, where it is not necessary.
On Tuesday, the government also launched a new AADHAAR application to help Aadhaar holders only share the necessary data when using the services. The application will have a face ID verification. To ensure data privacy, the application allows digital verification and replacement through the required application or by scanning the QR code, eliminating the need for physical photocopy of Aadhaar cards.
