Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said government schools must play a central role in the reconstruction of Telangana, stressing that the state’s future lies in its classrooms. He was speaking after inaugurating the new building of Kothakot Girls High School.
Recalling his own journey from a government school student to Chief Minister, Mr. Reddy urged the students to study hard and strive for higher status in life. “If anyone asks what a government school student can achieve, point to my example,” he said.
The Chief Minister alleged that the previous government neglected the education sector and failed to recognize the aspirations and sacrifices of the Telangana martyrs. He said that the Congress government is committed to fulfill its vision by providing quality education and development opportunities to all sections of the society.
Mr. Reddy said the government has prioritized strengthening public education by appointing senior officials in the education ministry and finalizing long-pending transfers and promotions of teachers. He attributed the decline in enrollment in government schools to inadequate infrastructure and praised local MLA Madhusudhan Reddy for improving the facilities at Kothakota school.
Stating that Telangana is currently ranked 18th in the country in education, he called for concerted efforts to place the state among the top two. He said the government would complete the distribution of Young India kits to 27.5 million beneficiaries by August 15.
