Since the closing of the High Court of September is coming rapidly, the Congress Government in Telangana is preparing to issue a government order (GO), which provides 42% of reservations in local public opinion surveys, a key election promise.
Main Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday (September 20) organized a strategic meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramark, Higher Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, Seethak, Jupally Krishna Rao and President TPCC Malesh Kumar Goud. Sources said GO was expected during the week.
However, this step is likely to face legal control because it violates 50% of the ceiling for reservations ordered by the Supreme Court. However, the government is determined to continue and initiate the trial and at the same time for calls in court.
The main minister previously indicated in Nový Delhi that he wanted to wait for the center to clear the waiting accounts for reservations. But without a positive signal coming from Delhi and assembly pressure, the state is left with a small selection, said the head of the Hindus leader, explaining the government’s decision to release Go.
Local authorities in Telangana have been operating without elected representatives for more than a year and create increasing pressure on the government to act. However, BC organizations are asking Congress to rely on legal provisions rather than extend the reservations through party tickets.
Congress finds himself in a subtle position and wants to claim recognition for fulfilling his promise, but to be wary of political consequences if policy is abolished. The delay is also due to the pressure of the party leaders who want to reflect themselves as a pro-BC, and at the same time to delete probable negativity unless reservations have been made.
Until recently, the government in rural areas was seen on a strong basis thanks to systems such as Rythu Bharosa and Free Fine Rice. However, a recent lack of urea has deepened its image among farmers, thereby even higher bets in local body elections.
It is likely that the elections will take place for ZPTC and MPTC, which are held on the symbol of the party, followed by the Sarpanch elections that have no party symbol.
At the beginning of August 31 this year, the Assembly unanimously approved the bill of Panchayat Raj (amendment), 2025 and the municipalities of Telangana (Appendix) Bill 2025 to facilitate 42% of the reservations for backward classes after the regulation sent to Governor Jishnu Varma did not cause the desired result.
Both accounts were related to the fact that they raised 50% of the ceiling on total reservations and provided 42% reservations in the election of members, chairmen and mayors in municipalities and Panchayats.
The Assembly agreed as they agreed to strengthen reservations, but asked the government to ensure that no legal problems create obstacles for their implementation.
