New Delhi: During the festive sale, you buy air conditioning, but a few weeks later, when it is finally installed, you realize that the warranty hours have begun to tick from the date of purchase. The Ministry for Consumer Affairs wants to change this by extending the warranty period for such electronics purchased as gifts or during the out -of -serenity sales, but only if they are installed by authorized service centers in the specified window, according to two people who are aware of this matter.
The aim of the proposal, which currently discusses between the Ministry of Consumers and Electronics Manufacturers, is to deal with a common complaint that faces buyers of high -valuable appliances that require installation, such as air conditioning, washing machines and refrigerators.

“They are also trying to deal with the concerns of consumers who install these products in another place from which they were purchased or delivered,” one of the people said.
The extra -season months, October to February and monsoon from July to September are popular for buying air -conditioning units and cooling devices due to steep discounts. These products are often stored for weeks or months before installation, which will potentially reduce the effective warranty period.
According to the proposal, the warranty time would not start until the installation, provided that it is completed within two to three months from the date of purchase. If the product is not installed in this time frame, the warranty will begin from the date of purchase, the person said.
“It’s a fair decision and the right step,” said B. ThiaGarajan, CEO of Blue Star Ltd. “The manufacturer will have no impact, because key components such as compressors and electronics have more than five years of warranty.”

“We organize consultations with stakeholders. During the last such meeting held at the beginning of May, most manufacturers agreed to the proposal and expressed their readiness to use a guarantee from the date of installation purchased during the extra -season or gifted during the wedding and other usual opportunities.
However, to avoid abuse, consumers will be obliged to declare the intended installation and the purpose of the purchase, whether as a gift or out of season, at the time of the purchase.
This information will be shared with the relevant service provider to ensure proper operation and prevent disputes, said a manager from a leading manufacturing company for air conditioning on the state of anonymity. The executive was present at the meeting by the Secretary of the Nidhi Khare Consumer Consumers.
