The Kerala government has set up a three-member panel to study and submit a report on the clearance of excavation debris piled up in front of the Kalladi tunnel site in Wayanad district.

The panel will include Santhosh G. Thampi, Professor, National Institute of Technology Kozhikode; Jude Emmanuel, Environmental Specialist, Environment and Climate Change Directorate; and representative of the National Center for Earth Science Studies (NCESS), Thiruvananthapuram.

The decision was taken in a meeting attended by Chief Minister VD Satheesan, Public Works Minister PK Basheer and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Friday.

The Committee will visit the site and guide the District Disaster Management Authority in the safe removal of debris to the disposal sites identified by the Public Works Department in the case of the Twin Tunnel Project and the Project Implementation Unit in the case of the Wayanad Township Project. The committee will also develop a short action plan for debris removal.
