
The state government has decided to rename four public universities in the state after 12th century social reformer Basaveshwar, saint Haridas and philosopher Kanakadas, Maharaja of Mysore Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and former chief minister Devraj Urs.
In a note to the Chief Secretary, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed to bring up the issue before the next Cabinet.
“We have already renamed some public universities after Maharshi Valmiki, Rani Chennamma, Akka Mahadevi, Ganga Bai Hangal and former prime ministers like Rajiv Gandhi and Manmohan Singh. Now there is a need to rename some other universities after social reformers and others,” he added.
