HYDERABAD
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former president of Telangana NGO Association G. Deviprasad Rao said that the state government is to pay ₹15,000 crore to pensioners and employees in the form of retirement benefits, pension and survivorship allowance and other allowances/charges.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, he noted that several government employees, including teachers, died of heart attacks after retirement as they found it difficult to meet even the monthly family expenses and were unable to marry off their daughters with pension benefits as planned. A retired teacher Kondaiah died of a heart attack while another retired employee Satyanarayana went missing (deliberately left home) as he was unable to meet his financial obligations scheduled with pension benefits.
Some employees approached the court seeking directions to the government to release their pension benefits, but there was no relief as the government promised before the court to release ₹700 million every month for this purpose but did not keep its word. The Supreme Court has in the past ordered that benefits to retired employees should be paid within six months of their retirement, even if it is late.
