The offer of two prominent auxiliary universities in Kerala in order to obtain the status “considered a university” left the state government in the place of harassment.
While the virtual visit of Rajagiri School of Social Sciences, Ernakulm, University Grants Commission (UGC), will be completed, the advance to Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, will take place in a few days.
Development is concerned that it has far -reaching consequences for the higher education sector. The government recently passed a significant bill, which assumed the encouragement of renowned higher education management to establish private universities.
However, the current development could trigger more institutions to seek the status considered, as it offers more operational flexibility than a private university framework within state legislation. In particular, the universities considered to function as a cluster of institutions, while private universities will not be allowed to set up more campuses in the state.
Politics analysts are afraid that this shift could undermine the auxiliary sector and even public universities in the long run. Up to 118 universities in Kerala, mostly government -supported institutions, currently have the NAAC “A” level with a range of CGPA 3.01 to 3.25. Valid NAAC accreditation with at least 3.01 CGPA for three consecutive cycles is a prerequisite for searching for a considered state.
“Given that several institutions fit into the bill in Kerala, many could follow, attracted by the ability to determine the fees themselves.
Both applicants will learn to monitor the considered status, even when they received a grant. While the government still has to mention its official position, the evolving controversy in Karnataka assumes meaning in this light.
The Karnataka government recently ordered the investigation of some institutions that have gained financial assistance, even after they have become considered universities.
Meanwhile, Mar Ivanios College refuted the news that the institution was trying to bypass the government to reach the status. The current proceedings are only a continuation of the application submitted three years ago.
She stated that the management filed its request in May 2022 at a time when the government has not yet declared any clear policy regarding the universities considered. While the government’s recommendations were required in the process of submitting the application, the government officially responded and stated that the matter was reviewed and the answer would be provided later. This official communication was submitted together with a request for a college at UGC.
