A 30 -year -old government employee from Secunderabad was cheated over 1.33 GBP Lakh in fraud with an online resort reservation after he tried to book a room in the resort she found while browsing the Internet.
The incident developed 2 June 2025, when the victim came across the “Myra Golden Resort” in Chiral in the Bapatla district, which she trusted to the contact number given online. She called individuals posing as a representative of a center who quoted 4,000 GBP per room and initially asked only 1 ₹ as confirmation fees. Once the nominal payment was made, the fraudster asked it to convert a full amount of 4,000 GBP to ensure the reservation.
After sending the amount, the victim received false warnings from the same number that claimed that £ 10 and then 39,900 GBP was credited to her account due to an administrative error. The fraudster claimed that instead of 39,900 GBP wanted to send 3,990 ₹ and asked to be refunded.
The woman trusted false reports and converted 35,000 GBP to her actual bank balance without verifying her actual bank balance. Since the fraudster continued to claim that he did not receive the funds, she transferred the same amount again, followed by additional payments of 20,000 and 35,000 GBP – every time she believed the misleading reports that the money was credited.
Only after these repeated transfers did the victim checked her bank account and realized that it was cheated. Until then, a total amount of 1,33,100 GBP was written off from her account within several transactions.
When she demanded compensation, the fraudster shared a new account number and ordered her to send the entire amount again to get lost funds. To verify his claim, he transferred 100 GBP, followed by a return of 200 GBP, which is likely to recover her confidence. However, the victim, with increasing suspicions, withstands other payments and filed an online complaint that was looking for help. After her complaint, the wing of cyber crime booked the case of Hyderabad the case and started the investigation.
