Alphabet’s Google’s proposed search results change to comply with EU technical legislation has received thumbs from Europe’s Air Lobbying Group Airlines, whose members include the French Moro Party Air France KLM and Lufthansa.
Google announced a series of search results format changes in recent months as prices compared to the conflict between demand for sites, hotels, airlines and small retailers, announcing the latest adjustment last month.
It seeks to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which prohibits it from favoring its own products and services on its platform, otherwise risk fines account for 10% of its global annual turnover.
“In the spirit of finding a solution that is in line with DMA, it shows that airlines are willing to compromise,” said European Airlines in a letter to the European Commission on December 20.
The airline group shows support for horizontal layouts for comparison sites in the airline and search results, as well as the same size box in color blue to distinguish them from other elements.
But it says the price displayed in the search results should be the same as the graphics in the box. It also expressed concerns about Google’s proposal for purely indicative dates, rather than the specific dates of consumers who wish to book flights.
The group: “Types such as dates are an integral part of the general search process for consumers seeking air travel, and switching to purely indicative dates will significantly reduce their experience.”
Google has said it could revert to the old format of 10 blue links in search results.
