Google previews Google TV’s new Gemini-powered artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities previewed by Google TV on Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025. The company’s operating system for smart TVs will soon integrate new AI features that will add new features and make it easier to get users to interact with their devices. The Mountain View-based tech giant said Gemini will upgrade Google Assistant and enable it to summarize news content, search through the media, and answer various questions about streaming platforms and devices.
Google TV is about to get new AI capabilities
In a blog post, the tech giant details the new AI feature that will soon arrive at smart TVs running Google TV OS. Using the Gemini model, the company is now making Google TV more intuitive and helpful. These new features can be accessed through the operating system’s voice assistant. It is worth noting that although the Gemini model is used to power these AI functions, Gemini will not replace Google Assistant. Instead, Google Assistant is upgrading using Gemini.
Google emphasizes that through this integration, users will be able to have natural conversations with smart TV devices. The direct benefit is that users will find it easier to search through media. Users can now conduct detailed queries to find the correct show or movie.
Additionally, Google says users can ask voice assistants questions about topics such as travel, health, space, history, etc. For example, a user can ask Google TV about the latest rocket launch of ISRO and can display a YouTube video that provides the added context for the results.
Another interesting feature of Google Preview is the News Overview feature. The AI assistant can now summarize the biggest news headlines of the day and introduce it to users via commands. Additionally, AI can be used to create custom art, as a screen saver for idle screens that can control smart home devices even if the smart TV is in ambient mode.
Search giants say these new AI features will be launched later this year on select Google TV devices. There is no news on when the feature will be available globally.
