
Google has expressed interest in fully supporting the Telangana government in the areas of transport management, cyber security, agriculture, startups and climate change.
Google’s APAC President Sanjay Gupta explained the company’s willingness during a meeting with the Telangana Rising delegation led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Davos on Tuesday. The assurance follows the Chief Minister’s discussion with Mr. Sanjay Gupta on finding solutions to climate change, its impact on agriculture and also the adverse effects of pollution in urban areas.
The Chief Minister explained the Telangana CURE, PURE and RARE framework for regional economic growth and the state’s plans to make the core of Hyderabad pollution-free. He highlighted potential areas of engagement in areas such as traffic management, cyber security and other innovation support for start-ups.
Mr. Revanth Reddy thanked the Google team for setting up the first ever Google for Startups Center in Hyderabad. The Telangana delegation explained to the Google team about the excessive use of fertilizers and the need to educate farmers. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to work on preventive steps to solve problems related to land and agriculture.
Industry and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu informed about the extensive skill initiatives taken by the Telangana government including Young India Skills University, BFSI Skilling, partnership with Khan Academy & Physicswallah and AI curriculum. The meeting was attended by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and senior officials.
Unilever is considering a GCC in Hyderabad
Unilever, the world’s largest consumer goods maker, has announced that its company is keen to explore the possibility of setting up a global capacity center in Hyderabad.
Willem Uijen, Unilever’s chief supply chain and operations officer, gave the assurance during a meeting with the Telangana Rising delegation to discuss the issue. Explaining Hyderabad’s rapid transformation as a global hub for the GCC, the Chief Minister welcomed the company to explore manufacturing of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Telangana industrial parks.
Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu informed the Unilever delegation that Hyderabad is the GCC home of several FMCG companies like McDonald’s, Heineken and Costco. “Unilever is a valued partner of Telangana which is known for policy continuity and fast approval and licensing process for businesses,” he said.
Possible ways to align the company’s climate, water and plastic reduction commitments with Telangana’s renewable energy, water management and circular economy initiatives were also discussed.
