Whenever you create or upload a document on Google Drive, Google (by default) makes you the only owner and editor of the DOC. So if you want to transfer ownership of the document to someone else so that they can easily edit or share it, you can adjust the settings. However, once you do this, you will not be able to transfer ownership to yourself, and the new owner will have the ability to delete you and change access.
Everything you need to know before turning others into editors of Google Docs.
Roles in Google Doc
The owner of Google Doc can edit, share, delete, delete edits and viewers’ visits, and even invite others to edit or view, while the editor of Google Doc can only edit and view the editor and viewers list. If the owner allows them to do so, they can delete and invite people.
Viewers of Google Docs can only read it, and likewise, commenters have the right to add comments only.
Change the owner of Google Doc
You can’t change the owner of Google Docs on your Android device or iPhone, so you have to open it on your laptop or PC.
- Open the home screen of Google Docs and go to the specific document you want to transfer ownership.
- Now, click Share button In the upper right corner of the screen, enter the name or email ID of the person you want to share with the document.
- Then, click share. However, if you have already shared the document, skip this step.
- Now, to change the owner, go back share At the top option, then click Down arrow It is available right next to the person’s name.
- Click to create owner > Yes and then complete.
Now that person will become the owner of the document and you will no longer choose to change settings.
