Google released a holiday logo on Sunday, April 5, celebrating the auspicious Christian holiday. This holiday, which is celebrated all over the world, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion. On the eve of the festival, an Easter Vigil Mass is held where the faithful gather in large numbers in cathedrals and churches to mark the values of hope, renewal and the triumph of life over death.
The post’s caption reads: “Happy Easter! This holiday logo highlights the centuries-old tradition of families dyeing Easter eggs with pastel colors.”
These holiday logos depict colored eggs, which are symbols of new life and resurrection in the Christian tradition. Exchanged as gifts and treats during Easter, these pastel-colored eggs represent the hollow tomb of Christ and the beginning of a new life.
Celebrations on this day bring together friends, family and traditions. Celebrated with pomp and vigor around the world, Easter falls on Holy Week. Palm Sunday, March 29, began this festive week, followed by Maundy Thursday and Good Friday commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. The events of this week eventually lead to the Easter holiday, which falls on the first Sunday after the Easter full moon.
Easter celebration
To mark this spiritual and cultural celebration, devotees attend sunrise services or late-night vigils, exchange Easter greetings, flower crosses, women wear Easter hats, families gather for meals and festive traditions such as Easter egg hunts, symbolizing new life and rebirth.
The Easter lily, a symbol of the resurrection, forms an important part of the church’s decoration on this day.
The date of Easter is not fixed like Christmas. It changes every year and is determined by the lunar calendar. Easter usually falls between late March and April and is observed on the first Sunday after the full moon after the vernal equinox.
The Pope celebrates the first Easter
Pope Leo XIV will celebrate his first Easter Sunday as Pope today. The leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics, who has emerged as a leading voice against war in the Middle East, will hold mass in St Peter’s Square from 8:30 GMT (14:00 IST) in front of thousands of worshippers, AFP reported. The US-born Pope will then deliver the traditional blessing at 10:00 GMT (15:30 IST).
During his Easter Vigil address on Saturday, the Pope called for a “new world of peace and unity” as he condemned the divisions created by “war, injustice and the isolation of people and nations”.
