Goodwill gestures, rallies and silent tributes at the memorial on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) marked the first anniversary Pahalgam massacrewhich claimed 26 dead civilians, v Jammu and Kashmir. J&K’s top brass, from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, paid their respects and used the occasion to subtly highlight several agendas.
Security was put on high alert for the occasion. Checkpoints have been set up at Pahalgam with additional deployments. In singles, pairs and groups, tourists stood at the memorial erected for all those who fell to the terrorists’ bullets on April 22 in the Baisaran high mountain meadow.
