Goldsmith ends up living outside the women’s police station

A 50-year-old goldsmith allegedly committed suicide in front of his wife and teenage son near Ijoor and Women Police Station on BM Road in Ramanagara on Saturday evening following a family dispute.

The deceased has been identified as Nataraj Achar, a resident of Vinayakanagar. He was married to Deepa and the couple has a son. Police said the couple was involved in frequent arguments over family matters after which Deepa filed complaints against Nataraj at Ramanagara women’s police station and Holenarasipura police station in Hassan district.

Deepa has been staying at her grandmother’s house in Holenarasipur for the past two months. She came to Ramanagara on Saturday to meet her son. After Nataraj came to know about her visit, the couple allegedly had another fight when he met her near the school.

Later, Deepa and her son came to the women’s police station around 4:45 pm to file another complaint against Nataraj. Police said Nataraj followed them to the station and allegedly threatened to end his life if he lodged a complaint. During the ensuing argument, he ingested cyanide and collapsed. He died within moments, police said.

Nataraj, who worked in gold and silver jewellery, recently opened a small jewelery shop near MG Road in Ramanagara. A case has been registered, police said.
