The golden car operating as part of the Pride of Karnataka itinerary has been redesigned for the 2026-2027 season. The rooms, food and beverage options have been modernized. For the first time, the trip was fully booked, a full house of 75 guests went on the first trip on Saturday. Apart from guests from across the country, many guests are also from Spain, said a senior Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) official.
“We have 75 seats and all have been booked for the first time. The full booking for the first trip is an encouraging start. Our priority now is to sustain this demand throughout the season. This year we have planned 13 luxury trips during the season. Seven under Pride of Karnataka, three under Glimpses of Karnataka and three under Jewels, V. Karnata Tourism,” said V. Karnata Ramhar, secretary.
Launched in 2008 and discontinued in 2018, the train was relaunched by the authority in 2024. The 2024 and 2025 seasons saw little demand.
The first journey under the Pride of Karnataka itinerary will start from Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) railway station on Saturday and head to Mysuru. Guests will travel to Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary, Mysuru Palace, Halebeedu, Chikkamagalur, Hampi, Goa and finally back to Bengaluru on day 6.

The guest rooms have been redesigned. They now contain a living room and a bedroom, unlike previous versions where there were only bedrooms.
The menu on the train has been diversified and made multi-cuisine based on feedback from past guests. Jain and gluten-free options will also be available at the two onboard restaurants, Ruchi and Nalapaka, in addition to alcohol at the Madira onboard bar. “We have also upgraded the galley on board with convection oven, high capacity induction systems and improved RO water purification equipment,” said a senior KSTDC official.
“This year, we have enhanced the services by training our staff in the skills required to handle guests coming from different states and countries. Individual cabins have been provided to the service providers. More than 60 members will work in the service team,” said the official.
“We aim to offer world-class hospitality while showcasing the diversity of Karnataka through a carefully curated itinerary and position the Golden Car in the domestic and international premium tourism markets,” said Karnataka Tourism Minister KJ George.
