Officials from the Bandlaguda Police with the recovered ornaments.
The Bandlaguda police on Monday arrested a habitual robber who was involved in nearly 150 house burglaries in Hyderabad in connection with a recent burglary in the city. Gold and silver ornaments worth around ₹ 10 lakh were recovered from him.
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Saleem, also known as Sunil Shetty, Ibrahim or Setty Saleem, a 52-year-old resident of Ali Nagar, Balapur.
The arrest came while investigating a complaint filed on September 6 by Shawanaz Mirza of Quba Colony, who reported theft of gold ornaments and cash from her residence.
As efforts continued to track down the culprit, the police arrested Saleem on December 1. He was held on suspicion due to his extensive criminal history, having been involved in nearly 150 home burglaries. They kept a suspect sheet against him at the Kanchanbagh police station for a long time.
Saleem was previously detained under the Preventive Detention Act in 2018 and 2021 and was last sent to judicial custody in April this year before being released in August. Police said he returned to committing crimes soon after his release.
During interrogation, he confessed to three burglaries in Bandlaguda and another in Balapur. His revelation led to the recovery of 10 tolas of gold and silver ornaments each from his possession.
Further investigation is underway.
