The Godavari region is set to become Andhra Pradesh’s major economic powerhouse and will attract investment proposals of ₹92,000 crore from June 2024 in 39 projects in various sectors such as maritime trade, shipbuilding, green energy, aquaculture and food processing, Commerce, Industry and Food Processing Minister TG Bharat said.
Addressing the 31st CII Partnership Summit Regional Conference in Kakinada on Monday, Mr. Bharat said, “These 36 projects will create up to 32,000 jobs, with 18 initiatives already launched and 11 more approved.”
He also said that the food unit will undergo a major transformation because of the incentives offered by the government to investors. “The investment policy for 2024-29 has been designed to offer a whopping 35% capital subsidy with power tariff and state GST reimbursement to those who want to invest in the food processing sector in Andhra Pradesh, which accounts for 15% of the country’s food processing sector,” the minister said, pointing out that instead of “ease of doing business”, investors should focus on completing projects on time.
Road network
Minister for Roads, Buildings, Infrastructure and Investment, BC Janardhan Reddy said the Kakinada Gateway Port, Kona, will be commissioned in early 2028 with an annual handling capacity of 16 million tonnes on the Kakinada coast.
In Andhra Pradesh, 1,900 kilometers of roads are being laid at a cost of ₹ 38,815 crore and 51 new roads are yet to be approved to improve road connectivity, he added. He also hinted at proposals to build six more fishing ports in the state.
Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh said the state government is ready to allot land for proposed tourism projects and star hotels and other resorts would also alienate land for these projects.
“Tourism Policy 2024-19 has given the tourism industry industry status and attracted huge investments across the state. The coastal belt of the state has potential for wellness and yoga centers,” said Mr. Durgesh.
