It’s great that I was able to beat Jannik (Sinner) in five in the semi-finals and really fight Carlos in four tight sets.” The 38-year-old added: “I’m disappointed with how I felt in the second and third after an incredible start. Of course it’s a bitter feeling after losing, but I still have to be satisfied with this result.” Djokovic, who had the crowd behind him for three hours in the middle, thanked Melbourne for its love and hinted at retirement during his speech. “God knows what will happen tomorrow, let alone six or 12 months from now,” he said. Djokovic, who moved up to No. 3 on Monday, later said: “I have the belief, the confidence and the vision to win another Slam anywhere. The last couple of years I’ve lowered my expectations, which also allows me to let go of some of that unnecessary extra stress. It’s always tension, stress and pressure and I don’t want to be overwhelmed by it.” Djokovic said: “It also feels kind of good not to be the favorite to win the Slams. I think it gives you a little bit of that extra motivation in the final rounds of the Slams.” “For me, the best way to deal with anything after the competition is to be with my family, so I’m looking forward to that and that’s the only thing on my mind right now – just go back and hug my loved ones,” Djokovic finished.
