The state government on Saturday issued an order fixing ₹3,300 per tonne of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 11.25% and ₹3,200 per tonne of cane with a recovery rate of 10.25%.
The order was issued after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held extensive discussions with sugar mill owners and farmers’ representatives on Friday.
Sugarcane growers went on strike in Belagavi and other districts of north Karnataka, demanding ₹3,500 per tonne of cane.
Of the ₹3,300 per tonne of sugarcane, ₹3,250 will be paid by the factory owners and ₹50 by the government.
Similarly, for sugarcane with a yield of 10.25%, factory owners would pay ₹3,150 and the government would pay ₹50 (a total of ₹3,200), the order said.
