
Hortus Malabaricus Botanical Garden and Research Institute (HMBgri), a Center for the Conservation and Study of Kerala’s Plant Heritage, will host a two -day international workshop called “Research potential Hortus Malabaricus: Botanical mystery for future research”
The workshop will combine scientists, academies and politicians to explore the historical, ethnobotanical and scientific importance of plants documented in Hortus Malabaricus, a monumental botanical treatise from the 17th century. The text, translated and interpreted for modern audiences through the breakthrough work of the KS Manilala, remains a vital legacy in the Indian botanical science.

The key themes of the workshop include: historical and botanical knowledge about Hortus Malabaricus; Ethnobotanical uses of native flora and scientific studies oriented to the future including molecular phylogenetics, phytochemistry, soil microbiome and sustainable organic.
