Global Fintech Fest 2026: PhonePe Becomes First App to Enable Visa Tokenization, Touch-to-Pay & Cross-Border Payments | Today’s news
Today, PhonePe and Visa jointly announced the launch of three new payment solutions: tap to pay, cross-border scan and pay and Smart Accept. The partnership, which was unveiled on stage by the leadership of both organizations at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, makes PhonePe the first app in India to introduce Cross Border Scan to Pay for international transactions.
Additionally, PhonePe becomes the first app to enable consumers with the full suite of Visa’s three core features: online device tokenization, tap-to-pay, and cross-border scan-to-pay. In addition, the platform allows micro-merchants to accept cards through Smart Accept.
Based on the tokenization of Visa devices launched on the platform in February 2025, this initiative creates a seamless cardless payment ecosystem. Once users save their Visa card on PhonePe, they can simply hold their phone to pay in stores, pay online at their favorite merchants or scan QR codes when traveling abroad, eliminating the need to carry physical cards.
