
Glenn Maxwell expressed his ambitions to play a more prominent role as a PowerPlay pastener for Australia at the 2026 T20 Championship, which will host India and Sri Lanka. In the T20is, Maxwell took 49 goals in 123 matches with an economic rate of 8.17. His best bowling figures 3/10 came against England in Belllerive in Hobart in 2018.
Maxwell’s experience with PowerPlay could prove to be essential, especially when facing the aggressive bats of the highest order. Its variations and accuracy make it a strong weapon, which allows Australia to earn on early breakthroughs and maintain pressure.

Maxwell, who spoke before the third T20i against South Africa in Cairns 16th August, believes that in subcontinental conditions they can extract more of the new ball, especially on dry surfaces, where the hard seam increases grip.
“I love getting a goal”
He also admitted that he was often surprised at the goals, but emphasized his focus on efficiently performing his role during PowerPlay.
“I think you could be able to get a little more of it on the subcontinent. Especially the new ball, a hard seam that is able to grasp on these dry surfaces.
“I’m as surprised as anyone else when I get a goal. I like to get goals. It’s very surprising whenever I get someone out. I’m there to do work in PowerPlay and try to do it the way I can,” Maxwell added.
Maxwell was a key artist in PowerPlay and during these early exceeding he claimed 17 of his 49 T20i goals. Its IPL numbers are even more impressive: since 2022, in the first six breaks, he retained the rate of 7.30 measures 7.30 and picked up eight important goals in this process.
In the ongoing series against Proteas, Maxwell claimed three goals, but admitted running at an economic rate of 9.12. He also fought with a bat and managed only 17 runs on average 8.50.
