Initially, Maxwell chose David Warner ahead of Sachin Tendulkar as the opener alongside Rohit Sharma, but later had to adjust his selection due to team composition rules limiting the number of Australian players to five.Maxwell’s initial selection for the opening partnership focused on forming a left-right combination with Rohit Sharma and David Warner at the top of the order.“Rohit Sharma has got pretty good stats. He’s got three double hundreds. 32 hundreds, average 48, batted at 92 (strike rate). And I’ll go Davey (David Warner) – average 45, strike rate 97, 22 hundreds. Two pretty bright openers,” Maxwell said in a Fox Cricket video.Explaining his initial preference for Warner over Tendulkar, Maxwell said, “I could have gone with Sachin, but I’ll go right-to-left (combination) to begin with.”However, the restriction of including only five Australian players in the final eleven forced Maxwell to reconsider his selection as he had already picked Ricky Ponting, Michael Bevan, Shane Watson, Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee.Realizing this limitation, Maxwell acknowledged the necessary change: “I may have to get rid of Davey. Davey goes, Sachin is here. To be fair, Sachin has got three times as many runs.”The statistics supported Maxwell’s final decision, Tendulkar’s impressive ODI record of 18,426 runs far outstripping Warner’s 6,932 runs. Tendulkar’s 49 ODI centuries also make him the second highest century maker in the format. The final XI selected by Maxwell included four Indian players: Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, with the latter selected over Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist.Maxwell’s bowling attack featured a combination of pace and spin, including India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Anil Kumble, along with Australians Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee.Notable omissions from Maxwell’s team included several prominent players from all three nations such as Kapil Dev, Yuvraj Singh, Andrew Symonds, Steve Waugh, Andrew Flintoff, Joe Root and Ben Stokes.Interestingly, Maxwell’s final eleven did not include any players from England, despite the selection pool including cricketers from all three countries.Glenn Maxwell’s complete All-Time XI squad consisted of Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Michael Bevan, MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Anil Kumble, Jasprit Bumrah, Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee.The selection came just days before India’s limited-overs tour of Australia, with England also scheduled to tour Australia for the Ashes series after visiting India.
