Girls secured more seats during undergraduate admissions held for medical courses in Andhra Pradesh, with the percentage of girls in dental and AYUSH programs falling between 76.17% and 85% and the same for MBBS course touching 60.72%.
Analysis of accepted medical courses at the Faculty of Medicine Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences 2025-2026 has shown that there is stiff competition among girls. The analysis report was presented by Vice-Chancellor P. Chandrasekhar to Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav.
The analysis suggests that female students secured more seats in both conventional and management quotas and those who did not secure seats in the MBBS course went to Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Ayurveda, Yoga and naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) programmes.
Officials opined that this trend may be due to girls starting preparing for medical exams right from their school days.
Out of the total 1,519 BDS seats available in both government and private medical colleges, girls have secured 1,157, with a pass percentage of 76.17, according to a Health Ministry report on Saturday.
Girls secured 380 out of 526 seats in Homeopathy which is 83.70% of the total. In the Ayurveda course, they secured 74 out of the total 98 seats in the state. They secured 34 out of 42 seats in the Unani branch and finally secured 60.72% of the total seats in the MBBS course.
According to a press release, a similar trend was observed for admissions in the 2024-25 academic year. Girls are also leading in the PG admissions that are going on in the state.
