Deiva Sundari P., principal of Easwari Engineering College (SRM Group), said on Sunday that companies are actually conducting recruitment drives to recruit young women for their roles. “This is to maintain diversity in the industries. But at the same time, these graduates are top of their class and industry ready when they pass out,” she said while speaking on the theme of women in basic engineering at the Hindu Education Fair held at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam.
Although the requirement for women in engineering was 30% of the workforce, in practice it was only 12%, she explained, adding that in addition to specifically recruiting only girls, companies also conducted regular campus recruitment drives.
