Girish BS, a Pharma-D student of PES College of Pharmacy, Bengaluru, appeared this year as a topper on Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) with six gold medals.
From the village of Bugudanahali in the Tumacur district was Dr. Girish inspired to become a doctor in a pharmacy while watching his mother fighting in a hospital with hypertension and diabetes, he said.

“There were co -morbidity and doctors gave her so many drugs because they were helpless and couldn’t diagnose her properly,” he recalls, remarks that doctors were often rude when they asked them to clarify their diagnosis. “So I wanted to find out how the disease was handled and be able to diagnose people effectively. That’s why I decided to connect to the Pharm-D course,” Dr. Girish, who lost his mother in the first year of his course.
Son of the owner of a small company, Dr. Girish said he was focused when he studied and prepared his own notes. He is currently working in Tata Memorial Hospital and says he is able to see the fruits of his work.
“We got a general idea at university that Pharm-D graduates have no respect because they are under the doctors. But I can say that this is not true, because when I go to the bikes every morning, the doctor always consults me before the dose change to ensure that it does not cause any complications to patients.” He also noted that it is important for pharmacists to be well informed to respect in their field.
