The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will inaugurate a multi-level smart car park, an automated revolving parking tower, at KBR Park on Saturday.
Developed in a Public-Private-Partnership mode and implemented by Nava Nirman Associates, the project, built at a cost of ₹ 3 crore, is being called a “practical solution” to the long-standing parking and congestion problems around KBR Park.
With 72 parking spaces and approximately 20% of the dedicated area for parking two bikes, the vertical parking structure occupies a floor plan of 405 square meters. The clever device uses a mechanized swivel system that enables efficient stacking and retrieval of vehicles – a space-saving measure crucial to the environment. Vehicle entry and exit will be controlled via automated smart card or RFID access, eliminating the need for manual parking assistants.
According to the GHMC, the structure will also have charging points for electric cars, surveillance cameras, security sensors and an automated control system. It will be open every day from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Parking prices are not yet published.
The GHMC expressed its belief that the smart parking tower will help reclaim roadside space, curb illegal roadside parking and restore footpaths and overall traffic flow. According to her, the model could pave the way for similar smart parking solutions in other traffic-heavy locations across Hyderabad.
