
The larger Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has intensified its efforts to identify and solve dilapidated structures and unregulated cellar excavations throughout the city to ensure public security, GHMC statements.
As part of the monsoon readiness initiative, the Commissioner and the main planner of the GHMC city organized a review meeting with spatial planning officials on Wednesday, where officials reviewed the ongoing reconnaissance activities and issued new instructions for a quick and comprehensive event.
According to the presented data of GHMC, it identified 428 dilapidated structures and so far 62 ongoing cellar excavations. 131 structures have already passed from the identified dilapidated buildings, while the subsequent measures take place for the remaining 297 buildings. This includes issuing notifications, carrying out the evaluation of structural security and advice to residents to release dangerous spaces.
Regarding the excavations in the cellar, the officials began to check the places, verify the permit and issue notifications if necessary. Spatial planning officers were ordered to expand the survey to all urban circles to ensure that no excavation activity was announced.
The Commissioner stressed that no new excavations in the cellar would be allowed within the GHMC limits from May 30, 2025 until the end of the monsoon season. For the already dug, builders and real estate owners are obliged to carry out preventive safety measures such as soil strengthening, supporting wall construction, barication and prevention of water stagnation. For buildings considered an extremely dangerous company GHMC has instructed immediate evacuation of the population. The warning templates must also be painted on such structures to warn the public and passengers.
