Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has directed the Chief Inspectors of all Government General Hospitals (GGHs) in the state to submit reports on the bio-medical waste management systems put in place in their respective premises. The directive comes after a dog escaped with an amputated limb from the Vijayawada Government General Hospital.
Acting Director of Medical Education (DME) Radhika Reddy has directed GGH superintendents to submit details of how biomedical waste is stored, transported and disposed of.

All GGH superintendents have been told to constantly monitor the storage areas using CCTV cameras. She said rooms where biomedical waste is stored should be cleaned daily.
The in-charge DME emphasized that training programs in biomedical waste management procedures will be conducted for doctors, nurses, sanitation workers, laboratory staff, operating room security staff and medical students.
