Karnataka State Commission for Women Chairperson Nagalakshmi Choudhari on Thursday emphasized that education is the greatest source of strength for women and the surest guide to a successful and meaningful life.
She was speaking at an interaction program with college students held at the district administration hall in Koppal.
The program was jointly organized by Karnataka State Commission for Women, District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Police Department and Women and Child Development Department.
Quoting from the saying “Knowledge is life and ignorance is death”, said Dr. Choudhari that education alone enables individuals to understand the world, their rights, duties and responsibilities.
“Every woman must be educated. Education should be used as a tool of empowerment. During her student years, girls should avoid unnecessary distractions and temptations, focus on learning and work hard to achieve success. There are no shortcuts to success. Dedication and perseverance are the only mantras,” she said.
She warned students against misuse of social media and said that platforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and reels have become highly attractive across age groups.

“Women are often emotionally vulnerable. Fraudsters use social media to trap innocent girls and women, sometimes leading to blackmail and serious consequences, including loss of life,” she warned.
She advised students to be extremely careful on the Internet, not to accept friend requests from strangers and to refrain from unnecessary contact with strangers.
Dr. Choudhari urged the students to use the power of internet and social media positively for education and career development. In case of cyber fraud, she advised them to contact cyber helpline 1930, children’s helpline 1098 or police emergency line 112 for immediate help.
She also emphasized the importance of understanding the Constitution.
“The Constitution gives us rights, but many are not aware of how to exercise them. Everyone must know their rights and have the courage to protest against injustice,” she said.
Referring to the various social security schemes of the government, she urged the students to be informed about them and approach the concerned departments to avail the benefits.
“For government programs to succeed, beneficiaries must also behave responsibly and ensure proper use,” she added.
Students from different parts of the district interacted with the chairman and filed complaints about the lack of basic infrastructure in their villages and colleges.
In response to these concerns, Dr. Choudhari directed the officials concerned to take appropriate action.
Deputy Commissioner Suresh B. Itnal, Chief Zilla Panchayat Director Varnit Negi, Superintendent of Police Ram L. Arasiddi, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Parashuram Y. Shetteppanavar, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education Jagadish along with other district level officers, college lecturers and students were present.
