Former Indian female captain Mithali Raj believes that the national team can finally end their long -term drought for the ICC title if they can entertain small but crucial moments in big matches.
India enters the upcoming Women’s World Cup As hosts and one of the favorite tournaments, next to Powerhouses Australia and England. Blue women, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will have their eyes firmly on the trophy and lagged in the final twice before in the 50 Over format.
“I think (India) must catch these little moments during big games,” said ICC Digital.
“This is the place where the balance lies among the best teams. They will make the most of these moments and move the momentum to their side. India must do the same,” she added.
Indian launching great stressed that winning the first ever ICC trophy would be a turning point of women in the country.
“I think it would be huge. That’s something every player dreams of – win the World Championship for India. We’re not yet,” she said.
“Yes, we approached twice, but we don’t have our hands in the cup. Winning the World Championship at home would be strange. It’s a completely different scene and would give everyone a chance to witness history.”
Young talent stunning
Mithali also appreciated the creation of young players, especially Kranti goud And the Shree Charani, who contributed in the recent Indian ODI and T20i series, wins against England.
“These young people have shown that they can get under pressure, which is essential in the main tournaments,” she said.
Raj believes that together with experienced activists like Harmanpreet, Mandhan and Deepti Sharma, the integration of a fearless young talent could be a winning formula for India.
With the home advantage, support of the crowd and a mixture of seasoned players and rising stars, Mithali feels that this world championship could be the best chances of India to finally pick up the sought -after trophy.
