A day after Nitin Nabin was appointed as the working president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), MLA Sanjay Saraogi was on Monday (December 15, 2025) appointed as the new Bihar state BJP president, replacing Dilip Kumar Jaiswal.
A letter issued by the party’s national general secretary Arun Singh said the BJP national president, JP Nadda, has made the appointment with immediate effect.
The 56-year-old leader is a popular face in Mithilanchal region and has been MLA for five consecutive terms from Darbhanga Sadar Assembly constituency. Hailing from the Vaishya community, which is the party’s core constituency, he had earlier served as the coordinator of the Bihar State BJP Cow Protection Cell.

On July 26 last year, Mr. Jaiswal was appointed as the president of the Bihar BJP, replacing Samrat Choudhary, who is now the deputy chief minister of the state.
After Mr. Jaiswal became a cabinet minister in the new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, talks began of Bihar getting a new party chief under the one-man-one-post policy.
Mr. Saraogi held various positions in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for 10 years during his student years. In 1999, he also served as the district minister of the Bharatiya Yuva Janata Morcha (BJYM).
In 2002, he was elected councilor from Ward No. 6 of Darbhanga Municipal Corporation and in 2003 served as the Darbhanga District General Secretary of BJP.
Mr. Saraogi was first elected MLA from Darbhanga Sadar Assembly constituency in February 2005. Subsequently, he was elected MLA consecutively in 2005 (November), 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025.
He was also the Chairman of the Estimates Committee of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2017 and served as the Minister of Revenue and Land Reforms in the Government of Bihar for the first time from February 2025.
Mr. Saraogi served as a member of the state executive committee as well as in-charge of organization elections and in-charge of membership in several districts of Bihar.
Reacting to his appointment, Mr. Saraogi said, “The party has given me a lot of responsibility and I will take everyone with me and work to strengthen the party.”
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulated Mr. Saraogi on his appointment as BJP state president and wished him all the best. Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar and other Bihar BJP leaders also congratulated Mr. Saraogi.
