Gennaro Gattuso appeared as the highest candidate, who took over the Italian national team after Luciana Spalletti. In the middle of swirling rumors and rejected offers – including one of the Claudio Ranieri – it now seems that the former midfielder AC Milan and the World Cup winner from 2006 is the preferred choice to lead Azzurri forward.
According to SPORTITALIA reports, Gattuso recently met with key characters from the Italian football Federation (FigC), including the national team delegate Gianluigi Buffon and President Figc Gabriele Gravin, during interviews organized in Rome. Former boss Azzuri, Luciano Spalletti, The national team took over in August 2023 after Robert Mancini’s sharp departure. The expectations were high due to the campaign of Spalletti’s Serie and with Napoli, but the Italian results under his leadership did not meet the brand. Their EURO 2024 campaign ended in disappointment with bike 16 departure from the hands of Switzerland – the team managed only one victory in the whole tournament.
To make matters worse, the recent qualifying form of Italy threw itself at the historical minimum. Azzurri has now left three direct qualifications without finding the back of the network-for the worst team. Their last trip, crushed collapse of the first half against Norway, where they admitted three unanswered goals, only intensified the urgency of change, while the automatic qualifications now hang in balance.
