(Bloomberg) – Germany convened the Chinese ambassador to the accusations that a military aircraft was endangered by a Chinese warship.
In the Operation Aspides led by the European Union to protect naval plans in the Red Sea before the Houth Militia attacks, a German airplane with a laser was targeted without cause or warning. In response to the incident, the Chinese ambassador was convened to the Foreign Ministry in Berlin.
“Using the laser, the war ship accepted the risk for people and materials,” said a German Ministry of Defense spokesman on Tuesday, adding that the aircraft returned to its base in Djibout as a preventive measure and landed without harm.
The Chinese defense and the Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The incident contributes to increased tensions between Europe and China after the government recently decided to cancel part of the two -day summit with planned EU leaders for this month.
The aircraft driven propellers, known as a platform with multiple sensors, acts as a “flying eye” of the mission and contributes to exploration with a long reach of the sea area. According to a spokesman for the German Ministry of Defense since then, this operation has continued.
The laser incident took place in early July, the Ministry of Defense spokesman added.
The timing was almost parallel with a diplomatic tour of the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who visited in Brussels, Germany and France.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul met Wang for bilateral interviews in Berlin 4 July. After discussions, he criticized China over her business policy.
“Unfortunately, our companies are currently facing unilateral and not very transparent export limits for rare soil,” Wadephul told Thursday evening in the German capital. “This uncertainty harms our business relations and also harms the Chinese image in Germany as a reliable business partner overall.”
Wang, who spoke alongside Wadphul, insisted that rare soils were “dual use goods” to be controlled. “That’s part of our sovereignty,” he said.
