George Soros family spends $102 million in Democratic funding ahead of 2026 US midterms – Details here | Today’s news
Soros-linked organizations contributed $102 million to Democracy PAC, a political action committee founded by billionaire investor George Soros in 2019, Fortune reported, citing Federal Election Commission records.
About half of the contribution came from Geosor Corp, a private equity firm owned by Soros, while the rest came from the Fund for Policy Reform, a nonprofit within Soros’ Open Society Foundations, according to the news source. The foundation’s board is chaired by Soros’ son, Alex Soros.
Geosor Corp, owned by billionaire George Soros, has contributed $62 million to Democracy PAC, an allied super PAC that serves as the family’s main conduit for political contributions, Business Insider reported. Another $50 million came from the Fund for Democracy, an organization linked to Soros. Separately, George Soros has so far donated less than $1 million directly to the Democratic Senatorial Caucus (DSCC) and the Democratic Congressional Caucus (DCCC), the Democratic Party’s two main national fundraising organizations for congressional races, according to a news source.
Contributions by Alex Soros
Alex Soros, who took over as head of the Soros family’s Open Society Foundations in 2023, has so far contributed about $125,000 directly, the report said.
The largest recipient of his direct contributions, according to Business Insider, was a joint fundraising committee led by Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Georgia.
Donations from Jonathan Soros
Another Jonathan Soros directly contributed more than $325,000 during the current election cycle. Among the biggest recipients of his contributions are the state Democratic parties of Alaska and Iowa, the report said.
The development comes as Democrats seek to bolster their campaign finances ahead of November’s 2026 congressional elections.
The $102 million contribution also puts the Soros family on pace to surpass George Soros’ $128 million in Democratic political donations during the 2022 midterm cycle.
The first six months since Alex Soros took control
The 2026 congressional elections are the first midterm cycle since George Soros transferred control of his political operation to his son Alex Soros in 2023.
Democracy PAC previously reported raising more than $81 million in 2020 and nearly $72 million in 2024.
George Soros, now 96, has provided financial support to Democratic candidates and political organizations for more than two decades.
Democrats are leading in the latest polls
The fundraising comes as a recent poll showed Democrats holding a popular vote advantage in Congress.
According to Fortune , a national Emerson College poll conducted Sept. 21-22 of 1,000 likely voters found Democrats leading Republicans 53% to 42%. Separately, a Cook Political Report poll of 1,052 likely voters in 37 competitive House districts found Democrats at 49%, compared to 47% for Republicans. The poll, conducted Sept. 8-11, looked at counties that supported Donald Trump by an average of five percentage points in the 2024 election.
