Hundreds of students, parents and youth activists led by the YSRCP gathered at a prominent center in Tirupati on Friday (September 11, 2026) demanding the government to clarify the status of the “National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology” (NIELIT) sanctioned for Tirupati by the Union government.

Interestingly, the demonstration was led by the self-proclaimed Gen-Z groups under the slogan ‘Tirupati Cockroach’ and reached the main gate of Sri Venkateswara University during the protest march.

Member of Parliament Dr. M Gurumoorthy, MLC Cipai Subramanyam and YSRCP constituency leader Bhumana Abhinay Reddy extended support to the movement and sought an explanation from the government when there was talk of shifting the institute from Tirupati to Amaravati. The District Collector has since clarified that the center is not shifting as is being said.

Dr. Gurumoorthy recalled his strenuous efforts during the erstwhile YSRCP regime to bring the center to Tirupati and the plan to train 4,000 to 12,000 local youth in industry-oriented technical skills. “The government must clarify the status of the detailed project report (DPR) prepared for setting up a 15-acre permanent campus in Tirupati,” he demanded.

Mr. Abhinay Reddy claimed that National Forensic Science University and Skill University have also been shifted from Rayalaseema, posing a big challenge to the backward region. He insisted that the fight was for the future of Tirupati students and not against Amaravati.
