BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy on Wednesday (September 30, 2026) said the Tamil Nadu government must hand over the investigation into the sexual assault case involving ‘Gem Granites’ R. Veeramani to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In a post on social media, he said that one of the officers from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the Veeramani sexual assault case — VV Geethanjali, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Against Women and Children, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai — has asked to be removed from the team. The officer asked to be removed from the panel, citing her previous involvement in the initial investigation into the case – conducted under the supervision of then Chennai Police Commissioner A. Arun – during her tenure at the Central Crime Branch.
“Given the possibility that various senior police officials may have played a role in fudging or closing this case prematurely, it would be right and just that the investigation be handed over to the CBI. The Tamil Nadu government must immediately request the CBI to investigate the matter,” Mr. Thirupathy said.
