With the elections to the five corporations in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) likely to be held soon, the Congress may push for the use of electoral rolls for 2025 as the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the electoral rolls – currently underway – is expected to be completed only by 7 October 2026. The party is also working on preparing several election manifestos to cover each corporation.
Term SC
The Supreme Court has set August 31 as the deadline for the completion of the GBA election process even as the official machinery is involved in the SIR process.
The push for the older voter list comes as the State Election Commission conducted a separate door-to-door visit to sort out irregularities in 27 constituencies across three corporations after political parties raised objections to the final GBA voter list that was released on April 18.
Congress sources said that in view of the current developments and the deadline set by the Supreme Court, efforts will be made to use the 2025 voter list in the GBA elections.
There is a discussion going on
While Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President BK Hariprasad and Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are learned to have discussed the issue on Wednesday; party sources said the Election Commission is set to release the draft voter list only on August 5. “We are not sure if he can be accepted in view of the deadline set by the ÚS,” the sources said.
