Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday said the civic polls for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be held by the end of December and the next local body elections will be completed by the end of March 2027.

Mr. Shivakumar said the Supreme Court was asked for time till December 31 to conduct the polls because of the ongoing special intensive review (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The Supreme Court granted the extension.

“Apart from the GBA elections, polls to districts, taluks, grampanchayats and municipal local bodies are expected to be completed by the end of March,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that the Congress will provide opportunities for young and new faces in the upcoming elections to local bodies, from Gram Panchayats to Municipal Corporations.

Mr. Shivakumar added that the government is determined to implement the spirit of the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments to strengthen local self-government and deepen decentralization of power.
