Greater Bengaluru (GBA) Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao on Wednesday directed officials of all corporations to impose fines and take disciplinary action against individuals and agencies found illegally cutting roads within its limits.
During a meeting with all the Corporation Commissioners, Mr. Rao said that applications received through the official software must be carefully scrutinized and permits issued only through a single system as per the rules. According to him, any unauthorized cutting of the road must be penalized and the damage must be restored by the offenders themselves.
In order to clear the abandoned and illegally parked vehicles, the GBA chief directed officials to immediately call for tenders for procurement of towing machines, coordinate with the traffic police and identify locations for corporations so that towing operations can be started at the earliest.
Reviewing the infrastructure projects, he said the white lining work, which is incorporated in 17 packages covering 140 roads of 220.68 km, must be expedited. Of this, work on 39 roads (79.08 km) has been completed and 101 roads (141.59 km) are in progress.
He directed the officials to coordinate with various departments and start work on the sections where the work is yet to start. He further added that most of the potholes on the main traffic arteries and highways have already been closed and the remaining ones should be filled in immediately. The plugging of potholes at the departmental level, he added, should continue on an ongoing basis.
