The cricket seems to have left in India once. It is a drama outside the field that drops all attention. The Asian Cup was dominated by a gesture of war, a handshake wedding and a stolen trophy; Now the accumulation of the Indian tour of Australia is the same turbulent-time over bold selection calls. India’s decision to replace Rohit Sharma Shaubman Gill because Captain Odi stimulated endless vibrations of a generation shift and overshadowed the ongoing test series against Western India. Some fans may not have realized that the West Indies led by Roston Chase is currently in India-Mozi that only when Gautam Gambhir hosted a team dinner in New Delhi, a food that somehow made more noise than the test series.
In recent night, Rohit Sharma was honored for the inspiration of the Indian triumph of Trophy Triumph. He decided to think about the success of India by pointing out processes that, in his opinion, supported both 2024 T20 World Cup and the champions of 2025.
“Look, I love the team, it’s not about one year or two years of work – it has been production years,” he said. Rohit repeatedly referred to the thinking and process that he and Rahul Pravid instilled in their team of older men during their time.
Gambhir Snub
During this almost ten -minute speech, Rohit did not comment on any explicit reference to the existing head coach Gautam Gambhir.
This omission is what has set tongues. Being dull: Gambhir was an official head coach when India lifted the champions in Dubai in March 2025 and this fact is difficult to cross.

Gambhir, named in July 2024, did not have much time to cooperate with the ODI team in Úvoje to the Champions trophies. In fact, India played only six ODI under Gambhir’s watch before they headed at the 50-Ner Showpiece.
There are two defendable reading of Rohit’s version and each has merit.
Defensible
The first and charity is contextual and historical. Rohita’s Eulogy for David is not new: when David resigned after the T20 World Cup triumph in June 2024, Rohit published an emotional honor to call the predator and even referred to the kind brand of the “working wife”.
Under the bird of prey, India consciously rebuilt mentality that favored consistency, discipline and more importantly, the state of mind where the dough casts fear of failure. Indian doughs have long learned to be safe and focused on the accumulation of runs. Just from children’s coaches to the elderly in the dressing room, young doughs were repeatedly put to secure their places with a large score.
But with the changing landscape of the white ball, Rohit and David, the dressing rooms gave the dressing rooms a sense of safety and encouraged them to prefer the impact over volume. Rohit led a change from the front – a shift that helped the party recover from the heart break of the World Cup finals 2023 and in 2024 lifted the World Cup T20.
Rohit’s point – that the success template has been set over the years under the predator over the years and that the players simply carried it ahead – is straight. It is also true that coaches leave the structures for: good systems are durable and often survive the person who first introduced them to the place.
Hard to defend?
The second reading is about optics and assignment. It is harder to prevent omission. Gambhir was eight months before the champions trophies, and as the head coach he and his employees supervised the final preparation and execution of the tournament. For the public, not to hear the name of the man in the excavation at the moment of victory, he will look (and feel) striking.
This is especially true now that Rohit’s relationship with the team leadership himself is under control: his recent replacement for Captain Odi Shaubman Gill has only sharpened this story. When the player of Rohit’s character praises the “process” and points to the predecessor, he calls for an obvious question: Why not name the coach who picked up the cup?
The timing increases everything.
Rohit’s comments were published only a few days after he handed over the ODI bracelet – an emotionally charged moment when each word was carefully explored. If there were any doubts about the temperature of the dressing room, the reports of leakage and internal cracks during the defeat in the Indian Gavascar border at the beginning of the year are abundantly clear.
It is also worth noting that Gambhir inherited a team that was far from perfect. Indian loss of home test in New Zealand in October 2024-first such defeat at home in more than ten years-soon she was in Gambhir’s tenure, with the test side of predominantly shaped predatory. If the predators can be attributed to the Foundation that led to the success of the masters, then it follows that Gambhir cannot be reasonably accused of one of his earliest tasks with the team he inherited.
How to catch?
The safe and probably accurate answer is this: Rohit’s praise of the predator is defendable and insufficient. It is defendable because the era of predaty-rosit has indeed set up the team’s thinking; David’s fingerprints remain in the discipline and the players brought confidence to the matches.
However, this is insufficient because the rituals of public victories are also moments of ceremonial recognition. Omitting Gambhir’s name when he was a responsible man at that time is at least a special choice; In the worst case, he feeds on the stories of fracture and protectionism that no one wants in the dressing room.
There are two subsequent monitoring. First, the intention depends less than the consequence. Whether the omission was born from loyalty, custom, desire to flatter predecessors, or something more pointed, will remain in the realm of private interviews, if one of the directors decides to explain it. Second, optics matters – and in modern optics of games can shape how the campaign is memorized almost as the result.
A short, kind mention: “And of course Gambhir and his employees, who saw us above the line, would be easy and diplomatically neat.
His absence is what keeps the story alive.
In the end, it may not have been a wedding or statement. It’s just another reminder that everything in the Indian cricket means something, though not.
