Indian coach Gautam Gambhir broke his silence on the test futures virat kohli and Rohit Sharma and said the duo should continue in India until they appear. The future of Rohit and Kohli in the longest format of the game came under the scanner after a disastrous tour of Australia for the Border-Gavascar trophy, because both men could not deliver their parties.
With England Tour on the horizon, The emphasis is again focused on the duo And whether they will be part of the team. Gambhir, who spoke at the ABP News Summit at 2047, as PTI quoted, said the beginning and end of the player’s career should be his call and no coach, selector or BCCI has no power to realize.
Indian coach said that if players are doing well at the age of 40, then they can still be part of the team.
“Until the time (Rohit and Kohli) perform, they should be part of the team. When you start and when you finish, your individual decision is.”
“No coach, no voter, no bcci can tell you when you should call it. He joked.
Gambhir also pointed to Kohli and Rohit during the championship trophy, when both men played a major role in the Indian victory.
“And what should I say about their performance? The world saw how they played in CT,” Gambhir said.
“Coach’s work does not choose a team”
When Gambhir asked about the choice of England, he said it wasn’t his work at the end of the day. Gambhir said that selectors would call at the end of the day.
“First, the coach’s work does not choose the team. It is the task of selecting. The coach will only select 11 who will play the match. Even those who trained in front of me were selectors, I am not even a voter,” Gambhir said.
India will be a tour of England for a series of 5-test games with the first game starting on June 20.
