Congress chief Assam Gaurav Gogoi condemned the decision of the Government of the party Brratiya Janat Party to provide licenses for weapons indigenous people in the state. Gogoi said that this step was a “dangerous step” back to “injustice and jungle Raj”.
Gogoi said that the main Minister of Hisant Bisw Sarma must immediately reverse the decision and focus on restoring public confidence through responsible management.
Main Minister Sarma said on May 28 that the Government will provide Assam licenses for weapons of indigenous people living in “vulnerable and distant” areas to put a sense of security.
“I strongly condemn the decision of the main minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distribute weapons to civilians in the border regions of the state,” said Gogoi, leader of Congress, at the X.
People from Assam deserve jobs, affordable health care, quality education, not weapons, he said.
“Instead of strengthening police and border forces, the government intends to divide weapons among BJP-RSS sympathizers and local criminal syndicates. This will lead to gangs and personal-based crimes.
“This is not administration”
“This is not administration, it is a dangerous step back to the injustice and the jungle Raj,” said Gogoi, who is also representative of the leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha.
“This decision does not reflect no public concerns, but about election concerns. The main minister must immediately reverse it and focus on restoring public confidence through responsible management,” he said.
CM Sarma focused on a press conference in Guwahati and stated that the decision was taken at the meeting of the State Cabinet after reviewing the “demand” of people living in these areas.
“Assam is a very different and sensitive condition. Assam people living in some areas felt uncertain and for a long time demanded licenses for weapons,” he said.
Against the background of recent development in Bangladesh and recent management of the state government against suspicious foreigners, the natives in such areas feel that they could be attacked, Sarma said.
This is a dangerous step back to the injustice and the jungle Raj.
“The government will be lenient in providing licenses eligible people who have to be indigenous inhabitants and have to belong to the indigenous community living in the vulnerable and remote areas of the state. He will give them further courage,” he said.
