‘Garv se kaho yeh Swadeshi hai’: Ahead of Diwali on Monday, October 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday doubled down on made-in-India products and urged citizens to celebrate the festive season by celebrating the hard work, creativity and innovation of local artisans.
The ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign is aimed at promoting domestic products, empowering small businesses and strengthening India’s economic fabric by favoring domestic goods.
In a post on X, PM Modi shared a video of the Indian government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative and said, “Let’s mark this festive season by celebrating the hard work, creativity and innovation of 140 million Indians. Let’s buy Indian products and say – Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai!”
He also asked Indians to share their purchases on social media and “inspire others”. “Also share what you have bought on social media. This way you will inspire others to do the same,” PM Modi said.
Bollywood stars come together to support PM Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative.
In a video promoting PM Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, several prominent film and television personalities are seen supporting local businesses and encouraging citizens to shop local and celebrate Indian entrepreneurship.
The video features Bollywood bigwigs like Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Varun Dhawan and Shankar Mahadevan.
The stars also posted a special video dedicated to the effort on their personal social networks.
Triptii Dimri was seen promoting a local footwear store in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
“There’s something special about shopping from people who know your name, your selection, your vibe. This Diwali I’m choosing local because every little shop has a big heart,” Triptii wrote in her caption.
While Madhuri Dixit brought from Dehradun to focus the local light business. “The light of Diwali becomes brighter when happiness is shared with others. Let’s support our local businesses, our own people – and spread the light of togetherness,” she added in the caption.
The initiative was joined by other celebrities like comedian Sunil Grover and singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan who also promoted small vendors and thanked them for their vital role in society, especially during the festive season.
The initiative received a lot of attention this year and citizens were encouraged to buy from local artisans, weavers and small businesses.
