Former English football manager Gareth Southgate revealed his long -term love for cricket and kindly remembered the days when he watched Indian legends like Chapel Dev and Sunil Gavascar. Southgate shared these memories during his visit to the iPL 2025 between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur.
Southgate was seen to wear a special pink set Rajasthan Royals When he supported the team from the stands next to his family. In an interview, he shared how he was a long -time sport fans and drew the parallels between the electrifying atmosphere of IPL and the football madness, which he often experienced at the Wembley stadium.
“I’ve always been a cricket fan. When I was a young boy. I watched the test matches all day. I think I’m returning to the chapel of Dev and Sunil Gavascar and the players,” Southgate said in a video released by the franchise. “And then many players got to know each other over the years when I played for England and I knew a lot of English team,” Southgate said.
“Last Year, Ben Stokes Came and Talked to the England (Football) Team and So, Also with and Lot of the Coaches, You Know, You Learn and Lot Across Sports fascinating to go outside your Field and Learn From Other People. This is the first time I was in India, (a) everyone was really welcome and it was an amazing experience, ”he added.
After representing England as players and later managed the national football team for eight years, Southgate led three lions on the European Championship Back-to-Back in 2020 and 2024 before withdrawing from their role.
He also pointed out the similarities in the coaching structures and compared the group of Rajasthan Royals-A leading the head coach Rahula-on-on the highest football team, especially in terms of professionalism and tactical entry.
After his departure as an English manager, Southgate joined UEFA as a technical advisor. In this role, it analyzes matches from the perspective of coaching, offers tactical and statistical knowledge and contributes to the development of European football through detailed reports and analyzes.
