The second preliminary estimates of gardening crops in 2024-25 indicate a total production of 367.72 million tonnes (MT), which is 3.7% increase compared to the previous year. This includes the expected increase in the production of key vegetables such as potatoes, onions, green chili, a guard of bottles and fruits.
Estimates were published by the Ministry of Agriculture and the good living conditions of farmers on Wednesday.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister of Agriculture, said that the total area under the garden crops, which was given by an increase of 1,81 lakh hectares to 29.26 million hectares, records the production of 367.72 Mt.
This matter assumes importance because the increase in the production of gardening crops (fruits and vegetables) can play an important role in the release of inflation, especially food inflation. May’s All India India Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) shows the interim 0.99% year -on -year inflation. The corresponding inflation rate in rural and cities is 0.95% and 0.96%.
In May compared to April, food inflation is observed by a sharp decline of 79 basis points. Food inflation in May is the lowest since October 2021.
According to the Ministry, it is estimated that vegetables in 2024-25 in 2024-25 increased by 6.11% to 219.67 MT, from 207.02 MT in the previous year. Increasing production is mainly due to increased potatoes, onions, green chili and ascent to a bottle guard.
It is estimated that fruit production increased to 114.51 Mt in 2024-25, a nominal increase of 1.36% in the last year. The country is likely to witness an increase in the production of melon, mangoes, bananas, mausami and papáje.
In the vegetables in 2024-25, the production of potatoes is reflected in 60.17 MT, which is 3.12 MT more than in the same period last year, while the production of the onion is screened in 2024-25 at 30.77 MT, almost 27% more than 2023-24.
Estimates have shown that tomato production in the 2024-25 season is estimated at 20.75 MT, which is slightly less than 21.32 Mt of the previous year.
