A drug ring allegedly targeting college students was busted in Mahabubnagar following a joint operation by the EAGLE team’s Mahabubnagar unit and the Jadcherla city police. Four people were arrested and 250 grams of marijuana were seized from them.
Police said the operation was launched after a WhatsApp complaint alerted authorities to the presence of traders supplying marijuana to students in and around Jadcherla.
Acting on a tip-off, EAGLE and local police arrested the accused, identified as Nani Koushik alias Marikanti Sumanth Reddy, Abdul Rahaman, a tea stall worker from Jadcherla, Subodh Kanth Sharma, a security guard from Bihar, and Mithu Kumar Yadav, a security guard also from Bihar.
During interrogation, the police found that Mithu Kumar had bought marijuana from a supplier named S. Singh from Nepal at a price of ₹ 79,500 per kg. The seized material was packaged and prepared for distribution among university students.
A case was registered at the Jadcherla town police station. Further investigations are underway to track down the Nepal-based supplier and other members of the network.
