Ganesh immersion finale to rule Hyderabad roads on Friday
A sea of Ganesha idols, trucks and devotees will take over Hyderabad’s roads on the last day of the immersion on Friday, with the main procession traveling from Balapur through the Old City and central Hyderabad before reaching the Tank Bund.
From Balapur, the procession will travel through Keshavagiri, Chandrayangutta, Falaknuma, Aliabad, Nagulchinta, Charminar, Madina, Afzalgunj, MJ Market, Abids, Basheerbagh and Liberty before reaching immersion points along NTR Marg and PVNR Marg.
Processions from Secunderabad, Uppal, Dilsukhnagar, Tarnaka, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam, Erragadda, Tappachabutra, Asifnagar, Kulsumpura, Jiyaguda, Attapur, Aramghar, Kamatipura and Bahadurpura join the main route or head towards the immersion areas.
For commuters, this means that much of central Hyderabad will effectively be part of the parade for most of Friday until Saturday morning.
From 6:00 am on Friday to 10:00 am on Saturday, no traffic except vehicles carrying Ganesha idols will be allowed on the main procession route. Restrictions on NTR Marg, PVNR Marg, Tank Bund and Khairatabad Flyover could continue till Saturday evening depending on the progress of submergence.
Police advised motorists to use the inner ring road, the Masab Tank-Punjagutta-Begumpet-Secunderabad corridor or the outer ring road.
47 lakes, ponds
The police have also listed 47 lakes and ponds across the city where the idols can be immersed en route. These are spread over areas including Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad and Secunderabad zones. Saroornagar Lake, Jiyaguda Pond, Sanjeevaiah Park Children’s Pond and Jawahar Nagar Baby Pond are some of the facilities around NTR Marg and People’s Plaza.
Thirteen parking spaces are also set aside for visitors who come to watch the parade and immersion. These include NTR Stadium, Lower Tank Bund Road near Katta Maisamma Temple, Martyrs Memorial Parking, Vishveshwaraiah Bhavan, Institute of Engineers, MMTS Khairatabad, Public Gardens, Qilwath Ground and QQ Stadium.
Buses, trucks and airport traffic are affected
Heavy commercial vehicles and trailers with inter-district and national permits will not be allowed into the city and have been directed to the outer ring road. Trucks and construction vehicles will also be banned from entering Hyderabad from 6 am on Friday to 11 pm on Saturday.
Interstate and district buses bound for MGBS will have to take designated alternate routes. Restrictions on these services will remain between 6am on Friday and 8am on Saturday. Private buses have already been ordered to operate from locations outside the city and remain off the roads till Saturday noon.
Those traveling to or from the airport have been advised to avoid NTR Marg, PVNR Marg, Tank Bund and the main procession route and instead use the PVNR Expressway or the Outer Ring Road.
In the upcoming city police commissionerate, 1,974 idols are scheduled to be immersed on Friday alone, the highest number during the four-day schedule from September 22 to 25. Twelve major reservoirs, ponds and check dams have been identified across the commissionerate, with 607 idols scheduled to arrive at these locations on Friday.
The Cyberabad police have also intensified their preparations. Commissioner M. Ramesh inspected Nettampur Lake in Narsingi, Kokapet Lake, Rayasamudram Lake, Saki Lake in Ameenpur and Gangaram Lake in Chandanagar on Thursday.
